If you are using a boxed cake mix and don't want to stand there forever with a mixer, sift the cake mix before you add the wet ingredients. It will break up the lumps and make the batter smooth in a fraction of the time.

Find this stuff at your local grocery store and buy it!
This stuff is great on pork and fish (especially Salmon)! I used to order this by the case and give it out at Chistmas since it's not available everywhere.
