I wanted to cook some pork chops tonight but get bored with the recipes I have so I went looking. Found one that was really simple, if I had all the ingredients. Alas I didn't. The first thing I had to replace was the lemon juice. okay...hmmm what kind of wine do I have, preferably already open. Aha I have some Mead (not flavored with fruit). Okay put 1/2 cup of mead in a dish and then added the soy sauce, but cut it down to 4 T. Oops wait...the mead is honey, to add more honey (the recipe called for 1/2 cup of honey) just didn't sound right...off to the cupboard. I have all this jam I've bought that I haven't used. hmmmm plum. So in goes the small jar (probably 3/4 C). Had to heat it a bit to get the plum jam to melt. Last ingredient was garlic, 2 cloves crushed and chopped, tossed in the pork chops. Did the all about noon. Turned them a few times and broiled at about 5:30.
YUM!! So what should I call it <G>
1/2 C of mead 1/2 - 1 C plum jam 4 T soy sauce 2 cloves garlic (minced)
marinade pork chops at least a half hour on each side. Grill, bake or broil.

Drunken plum marinade!
Sounds delicious. I'm going to try plums with pork chops. I don't have jam, but I still have several bags of plums in the freezer. No mead though, I'll have to come up with something else to use.

I like it! I think a sweet white wine should work. Maybe a Gewürztraminer or a Muscat.

Thank you ! Another great use for plums, which I still have in the freezer. I made it for my sweetheart.
My version, (I didn't remember to marinade until it was too late, lol) was to brown the pork chops with red onions, add a bag of sliced frozen plums, a bit of left over champagne and let it simmer down while I peeled sliced and boiled yams for mashing. I added more champagne at the end. The sauce was excellent and went well on the yams too. It still smells delicious in the kitchen this morning.

A nice variation! I was wondering whether to bake or grill. Next time I'll try the simmer.

I'll be trying the marinated grill version too. I told a friend about it and she invited herself and her husband to dinner! She's going to get the really really good pork chops from the fabulous Portland butcher shop, (Otto's). I think I'll try Meade in the sauce this time.

If you can find it try Chaucer's Mead, that's the brand I used.
