KJ: Oatmeal, blech. I am getting to the point I cannot eat hamburger any more unless it is a local, butcher house product. That first chunk of bone and I am gagging. I stopped eating hamburger quite some years ago .I also don't order it when we go out to eat either. You can grind up the oatmeal in your blender and add it to the meatloaf. KJ: Ohh ok, I pictured big chunks of swollen oatmeal in the burger.

Actually this is just another form of filler for this meatloaf and nothing more .Since I only cook for two people I make things that the both of us will want to eat .

The type of hamburger that goes into those tubes is outdated hamburger that they couldn't sell outright. It's a mix from several different packages so if there was a problem with one package, it gets mixed in with all the rest. Mass contamination...YUMMY!

You can't even see it before you buy it too. I am getting away from red meat but I do have a craving for s good burger every once in a while, not the McDonalds type, an on the BBQ grill type and from the butcher.

Whenever there is a ground beef recall its always from the stuff in the tubes. I cannot imagine ground turkey is any different.

I don't. That is why I don't buy the garbage you eat. You do realize that I pay less than WalMart right? Four is less than five? And I get beef from a single local free range cow. I have no clue what I'm getting at your store. Ground cow nostrils from a hundred hormone pumped industrial cows?

Speaking of meatloaf, I gotta go pick him up next week. He'll be so purtty in his little white outfits.
Mom used to watch for sales on round steak, the full round with the bone, buy that and make her own ground round. Doing that way was better meat, less fat, and usually no more and sometimes less than hamburger.

She used to make ground round and all kinds of sausage meats, as did my Grandma. I should give it a whirl, or crank! lol.

You are absolutely right you get to choose what you eat. However, what we are saying about tube meat, beef or turkey is true. It is a very nasty product. A few cents more a pound from a butcher is not only much healthier, but tastes much better too. But with your recipe for meatloaf I suppose you could put in ground up roadkill and it would not effect the taste.

We buyers of real meat know when we order ground hamburger or turkey from our local meat man, we KNOW we're getting ground hamburger and turkey, not ground @$$holes and turkey lips.

LMAO Good stuff! i guess you don't do the grocery shopping at your house. that stuff has been around for years. hubby, as i've said before, drew the line at hamburger in a tube, not that i disagreed with him. and, blissed, i have one of those old-fashioned meat grinders, too.
